STUBBORN SEED

Food: 4.25/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 It all began with foie gras šŸ˜ See I have a small (medium sized?) obsession with foie gras so I’m always on the lookout. I’d heard a lot of great things about Stubborn Seed and when I saw foie gras on the menu, I knew it was go time. Ā

We got started with some house bread which was quite delicious. Accompanied by a garbanzo chili dip, not a bad way to start the evening.Ā

The first dish to arrive at the table was actually the aforementioned foie gras. Triple smoked and paired with bread, some quince, and Marcona almonds. I certainly liked the foie gras, but for some reason, I didn’t love the triple smoke. Don’t get me wrong, I’d happily eat ten of these, but other dishes blew me away much more than this one.

We ordered the charred beets (at my friends’ request). Let me clarify that beets may be the one food I truly don’t like. This came paired with a goat cheese ice cream, blood oranges, and a lemon garlic yogurt. I have to admit, although I truly dislike beets, this was an interesting dish (and beet lovers at the table loved it).Ā

Next jojo tea cured cobia. I’m not sure what Ā jojo tea is but wow. And the spicy celery broth? Well I straight ate that with a spoon. Yum. Refreshing and then some. Get this dish.

Then came the superstar of the evening. Our server recommended this dish but I really struggled with the concept of ordering chicken at a restaurant. And chicken breast? Blasphemy. Well let me tell you, this was my favorite dish of the evening. It was so juicy and soft and succulent and ridiculous. Paired with mashed potatoes that actually rivaledĀ my mother-in-law’s (and that’s saying something). But may I complain? Although it was beyond delicious, I was told it had truffle butter, but there was no truffle taste :( that made me sad. But alas, we ordered another truffle dish.

The homemade pasta was also at the top of my list. Topped with Parmesan and Meyer lemon zest, this was different and delicious. BUT once again, no dang truffle taste. I still housed it, but more truffles would have been lovely.Ā

We also had the umami short ribs with trumpet mushrooms and miso mustard butter. It was good, but the chicken was much MUCH better.Ā

Then came dessert: the server advised us to order several of these but we thought two cookies were plenty to share between four. WRONG. Order at least a cookie per person of Stubborn Seed’s snickerdoodles. Yowzah! It’s like the most ridiculously awesome snickerdoodle you’ve ever had, all moist and gooey and cinnamony. And then you realize there is MELTED CHOCOLATE inside. *mind blown*Ā

We also had the chocolate mousse accompanied by rosemary ice cream. Delicious, but at that point all I could think of was ordering more snickerdoodles.Ā Ā
