Food: 4.75/5 Ambiance: 4.3/5 Service: 4.5/5 After the most amazing vacation a food-lover could hope for, I’m back in Miami reminiscing. As I look back on Barcelona, oddly enough, this is the restaurant that has stayed on my mind: a standing-room-only, hole in wall in the middle of the neighborhood of Poble Sec called Quimet et Quimet 🙌🏼😍 My husband and I arrived at Quimet et Quimet after a morning of sightseeing. We stepped into a tiny bodega and walked into a world of joy. Quimet et Quimet has been around since 1914, serving wines, tapas, and montaditos (tapas on a piece of bread), so they must be doing something right. We grabbed a table (no chairs at this restaurant) and promptly began ordering. We chose a ton of plates and watched as the people behind the bar made all our dreams come true.

First, the montaditos. Smoked salmon, Greek yogurt, and truffled honey. Wow. I’m not sure what was creamier, the salmon or the yogurt. The yogurt added some tanginess while the honey added the most amazing sweetness. We ordered this dish twice 🙈 and I’m drooling just remembering it.

Because we still wanted more salmon, we ordered the salmon with sweet egg. I ate it and I still couldn’t tell you what made the egg sweet. I can say it was a delicious dish, but the salmon with yogurt and honey was far better. Still, I ate it with a smile on my face :)

Next, foie gras with volcanic salt. The sweetness and creaminess of the foie topped with the crunch and saltiness of the salt was delicious. Only problem was, we also ordered a tapa that included this exact same foie but took it up a notch by pairing it with mushrooms. So let’s detour to the tapas for a second:

Foie gras with mushrooms. I fear for my cholesterol after this trip. They eat A LOT of foie gras in Barcelona. That sounded like me complaining. I'm not. I promise 😍. This combo was spectacular. All the aforementioned amazingness of the foie with volcanic salt PLUS mushrooms. Yum.

Next montadito: boquerones (fresh anchovies) with sun dried tomatoes. Yes, yes, yes. You know, there’s not much more to say about this dish. It was really simple, but the freshness of the ingredients and the combination of tastes was delicious. I’ll take twenty.

Because I have no shame (and have decided to eat only lettuce and kale once I’m in Miami) we ordered the pate with mushrooms, onions, and truffles. Dear sweet Lord. This pate just melted onto the bread. The sweetness of the caramelized onions and the sheer awesomeness of truffles took this dish all the way to food superstardom. Amazing.

Their Torta del Casar (a sheep’s milk cheese, curdled and aged at least 60 days) topped with sweet chestnuts, also hit it out of the park. The cheese was somewhat bitter so the chestnuts were the perfect pairing. Yummmm.

Next montadito: codfish with an olivada (which they translate as olive pate). I’m not usually big into olives but wow. Once again, just plain tasty. Delish. Sharing a plate with this beauty were codfish liver and tomato. I know, it sounds weird. But trust me. This dish was spectacular! All the taste of the cod plus the creaminess of liver. And the freshness of the tomatoes... amazing dish.

Cecina con tomate was next. A cured beef meat paired with sweet tomatoes. Loved this dish. The beef tasted like the awesomest beef jerky and the freshness and sweetness of the tomatoes was delish. Awesome.

Last but not least, because we wanted to really feel overstuffed, we had the assorted cheeses. A collection of delicious, yet pretty stinky, cheese 🧀 ❤️. They were yummy but I️ would have loved some preserves or fruits to pair with the cheeses. Whatever, it doesn’t even matter because I️ still can’t stop thinking about Quimet et Quimet. Address: Carrer del Poeta Cabanyes, 25, Barcelona, Spain
