Food: 3.5/5
Dessert: 5/5
Ambiance: 3/5
Service: 4/5
It was my father-in-law’s birthday and when Bocas House came up as the place to go celebrate, I could not have been more excited. I live in Miami and have instagram so you can bet I had seen pictures of those milkshakes. I packed the family into the minivan and drove the whole way with a smile plastered across my face
I was forced to eat dinner before devouring the dessert so let’s cover that first:
In general the food was good, but the dessert was ridiculous so if I went back I’d have an appetizer and get to the important stuff. I didn’t know better this time so we started with a pastel de cachapa (sweet corn cake). Probably my favorite plate of the night (dessert not included). The corn was sweet while the cheese it was doused with was savory, making for a yummy combination.

Next we had a tuna “ceviche” which had raw tuna (obviously) mixed with avocado in an Asian style dressing. Also quite tasty.

We also had tequenos (puff pastry wrapped around cheese) which were legit. Can’t really go wrong with cheese and carbs though (just sayin).

We had a porterhouse which was good not great and then finally moved on to dessert
As the server described the available milkshake options I found myself drooling just listening. Life was about to get beautiful.

We had this monstrous Venezuelan milkshake first. For those of us who love Venezuelan desserts let me tell you what was in this baby: vanilla milkshake, ovomaltina (chocolate equivalent of Nutella), a rim of milk chocolate squares (Savoys) and Flips, a brownie covered in more ovomaltina (cause why not), Torontos (hazelnut chocolate balls), pirulines, AND MORE ICE CREAM.

My (very happy) father in law had the tres leches milkshake (vanilla ice cream, cinnamon and a ginormous piece of tres leches cake).

And they also brought us this bad boy as part of the birthday celebration.
I was tempted to walk home after this meal but by Gd was it worth it. If you’re looking for me tomorrow you can find me at the gym…
